This installation took place in a room in old industrial building, the site of which was the first place in which stainless steel was made into cutlery and is still home to many metal workshops today. At the moment when the artwork took place the building was being considered for redevelopment into luxury flats. With this work I wanted to create a sense of presence in the room, to make people aware their surroundings and its history. The floor was covered with layer upon layer of magazine cuttings that were of anything that connotated luxury or desire. The contrasting of two very different realities hopefully invites the viewer into experiencing an ambiguous mixture of awe and uneasiness.
